Poplin, twill, and flannel: the woven fabrics of our pajamas
At El Búho Nocturno, we are known for crafting men's garments with the best quality-price ratio. Seeking to optimize the balance between cost and quality, a factor of great importance – if not the most important – is the quality and type of woven fabric. Particularly, regarding our flagship product, the traditional classic men's woven pajama, the quality of the woven fabric proves to be a key factor.
In the manufacturing and tailoring process, we pay attention to every detail. The woven fabrics used are selected with your comfort in mind, our customers. The woven fabrics we use in our products are mainly poplin, twill, and flannel. In this article, we will present the main characteristics so you can make the choice of your pajama with full knowledge.
Poplin is a thin woven fabric with French origins dating back to the 15th century when, in Avignon, it was mainly used for liturgical garments. The pope wore this fabric, which is where its name comes from. Poplin can be made from different raw materials: natural (plant or animal fibers), artificial (plant cellulose that imitates cotton or silk), and synthetic (derived from petroleum). At El Búho Nocturno, we produce two lines of poplin woven pajamas: 100% cotton – for greater comfort and sensitive skin – and another, a bit more economical, using a blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester. Both are soft, durable, and stiff options that make ironing easier and reduce wrinkles.

Twill is a woven fabric with a diagonal pattern that emerged around the 18th century and was traditionally made from cotton and wool, which made its thickness suitable for autumn and winter. Our twill is 100% cotton and features this diagonal weave. It has a natural finish, well-fixed colors, and a special drape.

Finally, we offer a line of men’s pajamas and pajama pants made with flannel woven fabric. This fabric originated and became popular in the 17th century in Wales and is established as the quintessential winter fabric due to its thickness and surface nap that retain heat and provide softness to the touch. This fabric undergoes a mechanical brushing process in which a fine metal brush creates fine fibers. This brushing can be done on one side only or on both sides. The latter, which resembles the skin of a peach, is called “Double-Peach” and is the one we use at El Búho Nocturno.
