The difference between a pajama that lasts two seasons and one that lasts ten years is not in the price: it’s in the fabric. At El Búho Nocturno, heirs to over 60 years of textile expertise and with the second and third generations working together, we select each fabric with a clear criterion: to offer maximum comfort, durability, and elegance for the gentleman who knows what he wants.
In this guide, we explain in detail the fabrics we use in our men's pajamas, their characteristics, advantages, and how to choose the most suitable one according to the time of year and your preferences.

Poplin: the classic fabric of men's pajamas
Poplin is the quintessential fabric of the classic men's pajama. Its origin dates back to the 15th century in Avignon, France, where it was used for liturgical garments. Today it is the reference fabric for the classic men's pajama for very specific reasons:
- Light and fresh: its fine weave allows air circulation, ideal for those who sleep hot
- Easy to iron: its structure reduces wrinkles and facilitates maintenance
- Very durable: withstands repeated washes without losing shape or color
- Elegant: its smooth and shiny finish gives it a flawless appearance
At El Búho Nocturno we produce two lines in poplin:
- 100% cotton: maximum comfort, ideal for sensitive skin, the premium choice
- 60% cotton / 40% polyester: more economical option, equally soft and durable

Flannel: the king of winter
Flannel was born in the 17th century in Wales and quickly became the quintessential winter fabric. Its secret lies in the manufacturing process: a mechanical brushing with fine metals that creates a surface nap that traps heat and provides exceptional softness to the touch.
At El Búho Nocturno we exclusively use Double-Peach flannel: brushed on both sides, with a texture reminiscent of peach skin. The result is a fabric that:
- Retains heat efficiently without suffocating
- Soft on both sides — Double-Peach makes the difference compared to standard flannel
- Improves with washing — becomes softer over time
- 100% cotton — no synthetic blends, no harsh chemicals

Viyella: the elegant mid-season fabric
Viyella is a diagonal weave fabric that emerged in the 18th century, traditionally made from cotton and wool. Our viyella is 100% cotton, with that characteristic diagonal weave that provides:
- Special drape: more fluid and elegant than standard poplin
- Natural finish: well-fixed colors that don’t fade with washing
- Medium thickness: perfect for autumn and spring, when poplin falls short and flannel is too much
- Soft and warm texture without the weight of winter fabrics

Velvet: luxury made into pajamas
Velvet is the most luxurious fabric in our collection. With roots in Chinese silk from the 3rd century BC and popularized in Italian Renaissance courts, the cotton velvet we use in our velvet pajamas combines that legacy of luxury with everyday practicality:
- Enveloping touch: the short pile of velvet creates a unique sensation
- Superior thermal insulation: ideal for the coldest winter nights
- Subtle and elegant shine: that characteristic luster that distinguishes the gentleman
- Itch-free: cotton velvet is completely soft, without the irritation of other hairy fabrics

For the summer months, nothing beats 100% lightweight cotton. Breathable, cool, and soft, it is the woven that allows comfortable sleep even on the hottest nights. Our short summer pajamas in lightweight cotton are the perfect complement for the gentleman who never gives up style, even in summer.
Also available separately: pajama pants and pajama shirts to mix and match as you like.

Frequently asked questions about woven for men's pajamas
What is the best woven for men's pajamas in winter?
Double-Peach flannel and cotton velvet are the best options for winter. Flannel is more classic and versatile; velvet is more luxurious and elegant. Both are in our winter collection.
What is the difference between 100% cotton poplin and blended poplin?
100% cotton poplin is softer, more breathable, and better for sensitive skin. The blend (60% cotton / 40% polyester) is more economical and somewhat more wrinkle-resistant, but less natural to the touch. We always recommend 100% cotton for maximum comfort.
Does flannel itch?
No. Our flannel is 100% brushed cotton, without wool or synthetic fibers. The Double-Peach process makes it especially soft, even suitable for sensitive skin.
What is Double-Peach in flannel?
It is the mechanical brushing process on both sides of the woven, which creates a soft texture similar to peach skin on the inside and outside of the pajama. It is the superior quality standard in flannel for pajamas.
Can I machine wash flannel pajamas?
Yes, on delicate or wool program at 30°C with gentle spin. Dry flat or on a clothesline, never in a dryer. With this care, flannel becomes softer with every wash.
What woven do you recommend for someone who sleeps very hot?
Lightweight 100% cotton is the best option. Our short summer pajamas in cotton are especially breathable. If you prefer long pajamas in summer, 100% cotton poplin is the coolest alternative.
What sizes do El Búho Nocturno Mens Pajamas come in?
Our Mens Pajama collection ranges from S to 5XL depending on the model. Piqué (polo) pajamas go from S to 5XL; woven pajamas (poplin, flannel, twill, velvet) go from S to 3XL. Please check the size chart to get the right fit.
